Writer’s Go on Strike: SNL Cancelled
Nov 5th, 2007 by Hiram

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) officially went on strike early this morning. While actors aren’t set to go on strike until early next year, the WGA’s contract expired this month. Both sides were still negotiating up until today but no consensus could be reached. While TV shows such as 30 Rock and Grey’s Anatomy won’t be immediately affected, shows such as Conan O’Brien (which was suppose to have Bill Hader tonight) and Saturday Night Live have had to cancel their shows until further notice.
In the photo above, you can see writers (and SNL faces) Tina Fey and Seth Meyers picketing in front of NBC studios. The 2nd photo I added was the picket signs in front of a Superbad movie poster (I just thought it was a cool pic, lol). The WGA is fighting for fair wages, in particular, residuals for the shows they write for. While companies such as Paramount, ABC, CBS, NBC and others accrue this mass wealth from their productions, writers are being left out. If I can find any pictures of Bill picketing the lines, I will definitely add it to the site, lol!
We here at BHO support the strike and hope both groups can reach a new contract soon! ¡Viva la unión!

Grazie, grazie!

Cancelled..bleh.
I support the strike, but Imma still mis SNL.
CANCELLED?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO/ Oh wait until the strike ends, but yeah Ill still miss the live shows,.
Yeah, I’ll miss them too. I’m all for the unions but I hope this doesn’t hurt SNL afterwards.
Me neither.
Well, there was one 20 seasons ago. and it lasted another 13 years so I think itll do fine. Maybe itll be BETTER.
No I wasnt around back then, just a huge SNL fan who knows tons of things about its history etc..
Only thing is, this better not last 22 weeks.
And I hope Jonah Hill still hosts after it ends. Can ya believe they cancelled his ep before the strike? Un-freakin-believable
One of the first things i thought was, We’re not gonna get to see Jonah Hill host SNL now..and it made me sad.
We will, just not next week
:[
I sure hope this ends soonish.
Ditto, and not 22 weeks.
Whats even more disappointing about SNL vs the last writer’s strike? GILDA RADNER was supposd to host before the season ended, never happened, and sadly, never will
Actually two other eps were affected by strikes. A show Franken and Davis were to host in 1981, and one that John Candy and Eugene Levy were to host, which they actually had scripts for and everything, back in 1984.
Ironically, the last one was in the 87-88 season, which only had 13 episodes.
Yes, I know a LOT about SNL, ask me something Ill probably know it.
Oh and for the clueless and un enlightened people who may not know who Gilda Radner was, she was one of the original cast members or Not Ready for Prime time Players on SNL back in the 70s. I have the first season, and I must say Bill and 70s Dan Aykroyd could be twins.
That’s cool your an SNL Guru Jack. We really appreciate your insight and knowledge of SNL history. I saw your IP address and it said you were from Winter Park, FL. I go to school in Alabama but I’m from Winter Park, FL. I went to W.P.H.S. and graduated in ‘01. Did you (or are you going) to that high school?
This is a great discussion so I think I’m going to plug the forum, lol. Jassie has started a new topic thread about the writer’s strike. To chat about this issue in the forum, click here.
However, you are more then welcome to continue posting comments if you prefer that method.
IM not from there at all. I just graduated from high school in Dallas, and over the summer, in August we moved into the house we only came to on vacations,in Santa Rosa beach, FL, and thanks!
It does stink that all my favorite shows… Daily Show Colbert, Conan and SNL are the ones mainly affected by the strike. Shows like the Office and 30 Rock will face hardships in January as repeats. But at the same time I realize that writers are not making enough of a profit. Therefore I support the writers and others who joining the picket lines. I just hope a reasonable solution can be reached soon because I would hope that it doesn’t last too long. The 1988 strike lasted 22 weeks!
At the same time, I wonder if Bill is at the picket line? What are the rest of the SNL cast doing with their time. Or are they all at the picket lines. I know Bill was filming Adventureland… is that still going on? Was the script fully done or were going to be be rewrites because that could throw production into a loop?
I found an article about Tropic Thunder. It’s actually a really short blog, but it features Bill. http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2007/11/05/stiller-tropic-thunder-will-be-a-funny-apocalypse-now/
NNOOOOOOOOO! when will it be back?! they should just try to give them what they want and get back on track already! i know it a lot, but still!
I agree with you Sarah, I can’t believe the networks are still holding out. This will hurt them more in the long run. I just don’t know why they (as in the networks) won’t settle with the WGA.
