So I went to see Night at the Museum last night, and overall I’d say it was a decent movie. I’ll skip the plot stuff ‘cause you all probably are familiar with it. My only complaints are that…
A. The concept is totally sweet (Being a history major, I LOVE that historical figures come to life and can appreciate the fact that the historical figures they chose were developed mostly for entertainments sake… but hey, I’ll take anything to get people interested in history again.), but in this movie wasn’t as well executed as it could’ve been. The story line was a little thin, and could’ve been developed way better (but it is a kids movie… so maybe on that level it was good).
B. A huge build up to the climax, which ends up being rather anti-climactic.
C. Not enough Bill Hader….
So Bill has intermittent appearances throughout the movie, and the scenes he was in were pretty funny. Also Hader’ character, General Custer, leads all the characters in the final battle against Al Capone’s Gang, Ivan the Terrible, and Kahmunrah. There is even a kinda sincere scene with Stiller’s character in which Custer explains why he was hiding (the whole failure at Little Big Horn and how that’s what Custer will always be remembered for or will it? I don’t want to ruin the ending for those of you who haven’t seen it). After a short pep talk, Custer returns only to be knocked down (he’s kinda a clumsy, airheaded, charismatic character)… With my Hader bias aside, I really liked the character and wished he’d been used more.
I guess on a scale of 1-10, I’d say it’s maybe a 6.5 or 7. It was a good movie to sit back and enjoy with relatively no thought involved and a few good laughs.
